8 Girls!

Last night we went to a school barbecue for Eli. It was a chance to mingle with some other families and meet the teacher and see the classroom again. In case you don't know, Eli will be starting preschool two days a week on September 4th.

I had visions of him making all these new little friends and in my visions they were all little boys. Not that I have anything against little girl friends but.....you know. So last night we found out that Eli is one of TWO boys in his class. That means there are eight little girls! He probably won't care at all but I am a little sad for him and I guess for my dreams of lots of little boy friends. Oh , the barely fives class is ALL boys. Ten boys to be exact. Why can't he be a barely five? He is four years and five months!

Little updates.....

Well, I had the most wonderful shopping day at IKEA on Saturday with my sissy, my darling niece and hilarious nephew and NO kids of my own. It was quite blissful and IKEA had so many new and fun things that I could have gone quite crazy. Greg thinks I did but if he only knew my real potential.....

Below are the curtains I got for my kitchen window. I had mentioned in an earlier post that I wanted to get something to break up the blue on blue of my secretary and my walls. I don't love the curtains.....they are a red and white stripe, a little ticking like. What do you think? I had a dickens of a time getting everything hung and ironed and hemmed etc.

I also got this darling little canopy, circus tent like thing for over Addison's crib. I have never felt like their room was done or special. I never really got new stuff for Addison when she was born. Since the kiddos share a room I never was able to do a girly room or totally redecorate. I had to make do - so I am trying to make it a little more special now. I also added a little flower wall lamp I'll use as a nightlight.

This would be her view....I don't know, Eli loved it and wanted to take a nap in her crib. He started crying like a baby as well. Hmmm...have to put a stop to that. I put Addison in and she just wanted out right away. I think it's cute anyway.

What a storm!

Last night we had a little wind storm blow through our area. This is what happened at our house. We were actually really happy that this was all that happened. The damage was minor: a broken gutter, a downed cable/t.v./internet line and a broken table. We weren't home when this happened, we had gone to visit Greg's dad for a little birthday pie. We left with the t.v. warning us of an impending thunder and lightening storm. Greg had brought Hudson in from the backyard a little before we left so he was safe. While we were at Greg's parents house we were talking about trees falling. We drove home with the winds gusting and lightening flashing so we said a prayer for God to keep us safe....He really did. We even had a neighbor from down the street leave a note on our door because they heard the tree falling. Poor Hudson was so scared and huddled by the back door when we got home. We decided to have the tree that this limb came off of taken down. I spent today having tree guys come out and give me estimates. Just a year ago we had another tree taken down not a foot from where this tree is. The sad thing is that these were about the only trees on our property and now we won't have those! I am really thankful though because I feel that God protected our house and our family and gave us a heads up to a tree that really needs to come down before it falls on our house. I did sleep in the basement with the kids though last night! Our bedroom is right in the path of the tree....I had visions of it crashing in on us while we slept! Greg refused of course though and slept safely in our bed.

A close up of the paint job...
It was a fun project and I completed most of it in one day. I bought my first tool for the project (if you can call an electric sander a tool.) I have only used stripper once before and it was so messy and scary that I decided sanding was the way to go. The finish came off pretty easily and the paint went on quickly too. I found some new hardware for it and painted the inside with chalkboard paint. I am a little disappointed with how the chalkboard paint turned out though. I have always used the spray paint form of chalkboard paint before and this time I used the kind in a can. Has anyone else had issues with it? I know my sissy has had some problems too...

I don't have a good shot of what is surrounding this piece but it is against the window in my kitchen. The walls are blue and I decided not to paint it red because I have so much that is already red. I agonized between blue and green and finally went with blue. Now it is too much blue on blue so I want to get curtains for this window to break it up. I am planning a trip to IKEA this weekend with my sissy and am hoping to find something fun there!

The Lake

Last weekend we went up to the lake with our friends Mike and Laura and their little babe Gavin. The picture above is a shot of the lake off the cabin deck. It is a beautiful lake, over forty miles long!
We had a great time despite arriving under a thunder and lightening storm. The weather cleared up and was beautiful for Saturday and a trip into Sandpoint to see some old friends.

Isn't she a cutey? This is Brooklyn, our friends three year old. What a personality she has!

The kids had fun playing at the playground and swimming in their clothes at the public beach. (That is why Addison is only in her diaper on the slide...her clothes were wet!)
Here is a cute one of my friend Laura and her little Gavin. This was our last day trying to barbecue on the beach. We were so cold we were putting on sweatshirts and wishing for fleeces. My crazy husband had to jump in for a swim though. It started to rain as he was swimming. We were all running for the cars and he was hoping the clouds would part and the sun would shine.

My Weekend

Look at these little cuties...do you know how hard it is to get a good picture of children together? Smiling natural smiles no less? We were playing in the yard this weekend and the kids were hanging out in the grass being oh so cute. I quickly ran and got my camera and when I came back they were still being cute! These two shots were my favorites.
